Blumat Tropf Standard Sensor 2 Pack

Blumat Tropf Standard Sensor 2 Pack

The Blumat Tropf Standard Sensor 2 Pack includes two 5″ (end to end) “carrot” sensors, and are used to extend your existing Blumat Automatic Watering System.

The Blumat Tropf system works by using gravity and the capillary interaction between the soil and the orange Blumat clay “carrot” cones. When the soil or substrate is dry, it will create a suction inside the water filled cone tubes – opening the diaphragm at the top of the carrot and allowing water to drip from the tubing. Once the soil around the clay cone becomes moist, this suction will cease and close the diaphragm again.

This allows for each individual pot to be watered automatically only when needed, and a single Tropf system can have up to 500* watering points ! The “carrot” does the thinking for you !

Please note: The water tank must be at least 0.5 m higher than the Blumat Tropf system for every 5 m of tube but no more than 14 meters higher. ( * DETAILED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS HERE )

Please read the DETAILED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS carefully, as these will tell you all about “the soaking of the carrots” and how to set up each carrot individually.

Whether a person can use a mineral nutrient solution for feeding in conjunction with the Blumat system is debatable – as the small diameter pipping may easily clog up over time with normal salt build-ups and nutrient calcification. A flushing and rinsing agent like FlashClean may have to be used periodically to dissolve any nutrient build-up inside the piping and/or clay cone “carrots”.  An alternative would be to top-feed with your favorite nutrient range as needed and to rely on the Blumat system for regular watering in between feedings.

Use your Blumat Tropf Standard Sensor 2 Pack when you need to water additional pots and to extend the range of your existing Blumat Automatic Watering System. Blumat takes the hassles out of keeping your potted plants hydrated and healthy !

Clone Dome Light Frame

Clone Dome Light Frame

The Clone Dome Light Frame is another great addition to the Pot Scrog’s arsenal of simple and effective solutions to growers’ everyday problems.

The light frame was designed to work with 85W Fluorescent CFL lamps that have an E27 fitting, but other E27 lamps and bulbs can be used as well, as long as they can be plugged directly into a regular power outlet and have the right intensity and spectrum to germinate or root cuttings under. ( An E27 light fitting has a screw-in thread with a   27mm diameter )

Learn more about the art of cloning and plant propagation HERE.

The base of the Clone Dome Light Frame has also been designed to be large enough to accommodate various sizes of plant propagators and can even house a Garland XL High Dome Propagator, as can be seen in the picture below…

Clone Dome Light Frame with dome

Any propagator or humidity dome with base dimensions of up to 44cm x 64cm can sit inside the base of this unit.

The height of the center of the E27 light fitting is approx. 44 cm above the surface on which the light frame rests on, which means that the unit will easily accommodate various types of high dome propagators.

The light frame comes with a 1m long electrical cord and standard 3-point South African plug.

Blumat Tropf Maxi Sensor

The Blumat Tropf Maxi Sensor is a longer (9″ end to end) “carrot” sensors, to adequately water plants in deeper pots of 30 cm or more. The sensor includes a short piece of 3mm Blumat drip tube and a 8-8-3mm T-Piece that will fit into the 8mm Blumat water supply line. It works in the same way as the standard 5″Blumat Tropf sensors, but will remain in open until a deeper watering has occurred, read more below…

MistMaker 12 Ultrasonic Humidifier

MistMaker 12 Ultrasonic Humidifier

The MistMaker 12 Ultrasonic Humidifier is a step up from smaller mist-makers, like the Sobo Mist Maker, capable of atomizing more than 6.5 liters of water per hour!

This ultrasonic fogger/humidifier features 12 x replaceable 20mm ceramic disks, powered by a transformer with a 108W, 36V AC output!

MistMaker’s ceramic plates converts electrical oscillation into mechanical oscillation, creating the micron sized fog or vapor. This oscillation also produces negative ions that attach to tiny particles in the air. This gives the particles an electrical charge, causing them to clump together and “fall” out of the air, leaving it cleaner.

The MistMaker 12 Ultrasonic Humidifier is a great tool to use to increase humidity in an enclosed space. The MistMaker can also be used for foliar feeding or aeroponic root feeding, as plant leaves and roots are able to absorb the minute water particles very easily.

Solutions with very high or very low pH values should be avoided, as this most cause corrosion. The atomizing film should be kept clean and often be washed to maintain maximum fogging capacity. Mineral salt buildups can be dissolved using rinsing agents like FlashClean.

  • The mist head should be installed flat (horizontally), with the water level 30 – 50 mm higher than the ceramic plates / 10 mm higher than the top of the square-shaped water level sensor.
  • Never touch the ceramic plates or the water level sensor. keep fingers well away from ceramic disks during operation.
  • The water level sensor will only function properly when TAP WATER is used. Distilled water will not allow the sensor to be triggered and may cause the unit to remain on when no water is present, causing burn-out.
  • The container that the unit is operating in should be large enough to accommodate the water splashing that will be generated by the unit’s action.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners on any part of the unit.

Floats that house the MistMaker’s head are available – this allows the head to “float” at the right depth inside the water container, while the level of the water in the container recedes as the water is atomized.

An alternative method of housing the mist head is depicted below. This method uses a fan to distribute the fog/vapor around a space and the water level remains at the same height, being fed by the upside-down reservoir every time an air-gap is formed by the receding water line…

Creative Plant Trainer Plant Bends

Creative Plant Trainer Plant Bends

Creative Plant Trainer Plant Bends are here – bigger and stronger, these hard plastic plant stem trainers are a must-have for any grower.

These clips’ larger size and rigid form ensures that stems grow into the desired direction…

Creative Plant Trainer Size

Creative Plant Trainer Plant Bends (sold individually) enable you to train stems into a flat horizontal plane – to ensure that all bud sites on the plant stems receive as much equally intense light as possible.

The trainers allow you to gently bend the branches of your plants into them from their open side. By clipping on more than one clip into the same stem, you can sculpt the shape of your plant to provide maximum light penetration and increase flower development. After a week or two, they can be removed and the bend will remain, they can then be used elsewhere on the plant.

These plant stem trainers are best to use on stem that are able to support their weight, but still pliable enough fit into the bends without snapping. As a plant matures, its branches and stems stiffen and can become more woody. These are far harder to train and can easily snap if they bend too far. With a bit of forward planning, these trainers can be put to great use.

Use smaller and lighter white Plant Bends for younger plants with thinner, softer stems.

Connectable Plant Support Stakes

Connectable Plant Support Stakes

Connectable Plant Support Stakes are each 60cm tall and are connectable (they screw into each other) to easily create longer plant stakes.

Plants and carrying plant stems often get “top-heavy” during flowering and fruiting, causing them to lean, or even fall over completely and this when you would need to tie them to a support to give them extra stability. Tomatoes and other climbing plants, like Peas, Beans, Cucumbers, etc., also need to be secured to some type of support to support their growing habit.

These stakes can also be used to train plants as they are growing:

  • Support younger plants that tend to be floppy after their first transplant. This often happens when top-side growth is a little bit too aggressive for the plant’s own good, where to root system has not had enough time to anchor the plant into the substrate well enough yet.
  • Stakes can also be used during LST ( Low Stress Training ), where stems are trained according to the grower’s desire while the plant is developing. Stems are are often trained horizontally to create a flat plane where all budding sites will have equal access to light from above, but some adventurous growers may experiment with plants that are trained to form a cylinder or a square around a centrally suspended light source.

These Connectable Plant Support Stakes are made from plastic-coated steel, providing increased durability and strength.

Amblyseius Swirskii

Amblyseius Swirskii

Amblyseius-Swirskii-Sachet-2023Amblyseius Swirskii is a predatory mite supplied by BioBee South Africa, who are actively providing IPM solutions which reduce the use of pesticides for both conventional and bio-organic agriculture in the country.

Sold by Hydroponic.co.za in 5g sachets, which are hooked onto plant stems close to leaves. The mites will emerge from the holes in the top of the sachets over a number of days, eager to find food and help with the elimination of the following pests:

  • Sweet potato whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) – targets immature stages
  • Greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariprum) – targets immature stages
  • Young larvae of Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis) – targets immature stages
  • Two-spotted spider mite and red spider mite (Tetranychus urticaeT. cinnabarinus)
  • Broad mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus)

The release rate depends upon the nature of the crop, the ecosystem (e.g. open field or greenhouse) and the rate of pest infestation. Temperatures of 21-27°C and high humidity (above 60%) will enhance predator activity and ensure its success. Make sure that the holes of each sachet are indeed open, to ensure that the mites will be able to crawl out of it easily. (Holes can be enlarged slightly, using a pen or pencil). For faster dispersion, the sachets can be torn open and the contents sprinkled onto the plant’s leaves.

Amblyseius Swirskii should be shipped and stored at temperatures ranging from around 6 – 16 °C and the sachets should be viable for up to 3 weeks after the production date printed on each sachet.
