Autopot Piping

Autopot Piping

Autopot Piping comes in various thicknesses and is made from soft PVC, which is slightly softer and more pliable than agricultural LDPE or PVC irrigation pipe. The elasticity of the Autopot piping molds snugly around pipe fittings when attached, providing a leak-proof seal when used in low and no pressure applications, like Autopot’s gravity fed self watering systems. Fittings can also be removed from the this type of piping quite easily, allowing for easy deconstruction or changes in system layout.

We especially recommend using Autopot piping to connect your Autopot Aquavalves because of the soft fit.

Below is a table of the approximate inner diameter and outer diameter measurements of the various types of Autopot Piping that is available:

General Name Inner Diameter Outer Diameter Compatible Fittings
6 mm 4.2 mm 6.3 mm “5 or 6 mm” Fittings, 6 mm Top Hat Grommets*, Older Aquavalve systems
9 mm 6.5 mm 9 mm “9 mm” Fittings (Used with the new Aquavalve 5 and Aquavalve 5 systems)
16 mm 12.5 mm 18.5 mm “12 mm” Fittings & 16 mm Top Hat Grommets*. Used for trunk lines in multi-pot systems.

* Correct hole size must be drilled to house Top Hat Grommet.

All are sold per meter.

Sobo Mist Maker

Sobo Mist Maker

The Sobo Mist Maker uses ultrasonic atomizing technology to create an ultra fine mist or fog without actual evaporation taking place. This makes it a great tool to use inside an aeroponic type cloner or to increase humidity in an enclosed space. The Mist Maker can also be used for foliar feeding as the leaves are able to absorb the minute water particles very easily.

Bigger mist-makers are also available…MistMaker 3 Ultrasonic Humidifier

Solutions with very high or very low pH values should be avoided, as this most cause corrosion. The atomizing film should be kept clean and often be washed to maintain maximum fogging capacity. Mineral salt buildups can be dissolved using rinsing agents like FlashClean.

The spray head should be installed flat (horizontally), with the water level  5 – 10 mm higher than the top of the unit. If the Sobo Mist Maker is submerged lower than this, misting capacity will be reduced. When the top of the mist maker is above the water level, the atomizer will automatically go into protection mode and stop operation. The Mist Maker should be installed in a container that is large enough to catch the water splashes caused by the ultrasonic diaphragm.

Ideally, the Mist Maker should not be run constantly 24/7, but rather be used for intervals at a time. The diaphragm can be unscrewed and replaced if it has reached the end of its lifespan.

Also has LED lights !!! 🤣

Blumat Tropf Standard Sensor

Blumat Tropf Standard Sensor

The Blumat Tropf Standard Sensor is a 5″ (end to end) “carrot” sensor, and is used to extend your existing Blumat Automatic Watering System. The sensor includes a short piece of 3mm Blumat drip tube and a 8-8-3mm T-Piece that will fit into the 8mm Blumat water supply line.

The Blumat Tropf system works by using gravity and the capillary interaction between the soil and the orange Blumat clay “carrot” cones. When the soil or substrate is dry, it will create a suction inside the water filled cone tubes – opening the diaphragm at the top of the carrot and allowing water to drip from the tubing. Once the soil around the clay cone becomes moist, this suction will cease and close the diaphragm again.

This allows for each individual pot to be watered automatically only when needed, and a single Tropf system can have up to 500* watering points ! The “carrot” does the thinking for you !

Please note: The water tank must be at least 0.5 m higher than the Blumat Tropf system for every 5 m of tube but no more than 14 meters higher. ( * DETAILED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS HERE )

Please read the DETAILED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS carefully, as these will tell you all about “the soaking of the carrots” and how to set up each carrot individually.

Whether a person can use a mineral nutrient solution for feeding in conjunction with the Blumat system is debatable – as the small diameter pipping may easily clog up over time with normal salt build-ups and nutrient calcification. A flushing and rinsing agent like FlashClean may have to be used periodically to dissolve any nutrient build-up inside the piping and/or clay cone “carrots”.  An alternative would be to top-feed with your favorite nutrient range as needed and to rely on the Blumat system for regular watering in between feedings.

Use your Blumat Tropf Standard Sensor when you need to water additional pots and to extend the range of your existing Blumat Automatic Watering System. Blumat takes the hassles out of keeping your potted plants hydrated and healthy !

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide 50 percent 500ml

Hydrogen peroxide  is water with an extra oxygen atom in it which, when broken down into the solution, helps to add extra oxygen to your Hydroponic nutrient solution. This extra oxygen is then applied to the Hydroponic plant’s roots making healthier and more robust plants with lots of healthy new root growth.

Hydrogen peroxide is also very helpful in sterilizing your growing medium and the surrounding growing area at the same time. It helps to prevent bacteria and harmful pathogens like fusarium, pythium and some other unwanted diseases from growing in your Hydroponic system.

Strength: 50%

To get to a 3% solution, use DISTILLED WATER and dilute 6 mls 50% H2O2 into 94 mls of distilled water.

Dilution of 3% H2o2 into a hydroponic system with plants in it: Up to 3 mls of 3% H2O2 per liter of nutrient solution. It is advised to start with lower doses and gradually increase to 3 mls of 3% H2O2 per liter.

CORROSIVE!!! – HANDLE WITH CARE, STORE RESPONSIBLY, DO NOT INGEST

Using Hydrogen Peroxide for root rot and over-watering

Over-watering:

Roots require Oxygen to breathe and low Oxygen levels are the main cause of almost all root diseases. Hydroponic crops often fail due to “root rot” and soil crops succumb to over watering.Soil consists of particles, a film of water on the particles and air spaces between the particles, when too much water is put into the soil the air spaces fill with liquid. The roots will quickly use up what Oxygen is dissolved in the water; if they haven’t drunk enough of the liquid to allow air back in to the soil spaces they will stop working. In this situation roots will start dying within twenty-four hours. As the roots die the plants ability to drink water and nutrients will decrease, this will cause symptoms of nutrient deficiencies (mostly pale, slow, weak growth), and strangely they will start to wilt like they don’t have enough water. In a Hydroponic system the cause is a more direct simple lack of oxygen in the solution; this may be from inadequate circulation and/or aeration. High reservoir temperatures also interfere with Oxygen’s ability to dissolve in the water. The same symptoms will appear as with soil plants but you can also check the roots. Healthy roots should be mostly white with maybe a slight yellowish tan tinge. If they are a brownish colour with dead tips or they easily pull away there are at least the beginnings of a serious problem. Organic dirt like rotting smell means there is already a very good chance it is too late. As roots die and rot they eat Oxygen out of the water, as Oxygen levels are even further depleted more roots die, a viscous circle may be well under way. Reduced Oxygen levels and high temperatures both encourage anaerobic bacteria and fungi. The plants may still be saved but you will have to work fast.

How Hydrogen Peroxide prevents root rot and or over-watering.
When plants are watered with Hydrogen Peroxide it will break down and release Oxygen into the area around the roots. This helps stop the Oxygen from being depleted in the water filled air spaces until air can get back into them. High Oxygen levels at the roots will encourage rapid healthy root growth. In a Hydroponic system Hydrogen Peroxide will disperse throughout the system and raise Oxygen levels as it breaks down. Strong white healthy roots with lots of fuzzy new growth will be visible. This fuzzy growth has massive surface area allowing for rapid absorption of the huge amounts of water and nutrients needed for rapid top growth. A healthy plant starts with a healthy root system.

What to do if you already have root rot,in hydro:

Change your nutrients. Add Hydrogen Peroxide to the system. This will add oxygen and chemically eat dead roots. If roots are badly rotted pull them off by hand. Add a fungicide to kill any fungus that is probably present in the rotted tissue to prevent it from spreading. If plants are wilting, Increase aeration of the water, get an air pump and air stones. An air stone under every plant is usually very effective, but will require a larger air pump. Decrease the reservoir temperature, oxygen dissolves better in cold water and disease causing organisms reproduce slower as well. It is also a good idea to remove any wilting plants from the system and put them on a separate reservoir so they don’t infect plants that are still healthy.

Warning:

Hydrogen Peroxide is highly concentrated; it can cause damage to skin and clothing. When working with Hydrogen Peroxide it is very important that you clean up any spills or splashes immediately, it will damage almost anything very quickly. This is extra important with skin and clothing. Skin will be temporarily bleached pure white if not washed cleaned. Gloves are strongly recommended when working with any strong chemical. Store responsibly – away from pets and children. Do NOT ingest!

The key to big productive plants is a big healthy root system and Hydrogen Peroxide is a great way to keep your roots healthy. It is a must to ensure the biggest best crops possible and to increase the chances of your plants thriving to harvest. Peroxide users will rarely lose plants or crops to root disease and will harvest larger and more consistent crops.

AQUAvalve silicone

AQUAvalve Silicone

AQUAvalve silicone seals are inserted into the recesses in the top & bottom floats of the Autopot AQUAvalve.

The old AQUAvalve with its 3mm inlet uses the same (small) seal for both the top and bottom floats. (Blue or black colored valves)

The NEW AQUAvalve 5 with its 5mm inlet uses a small silicone seal for its top float and a larger silicone seal for its bottom float. (Grey colored valves)

PLEASE NOTE: Batches of silicone seals vary in color from time to time and they may be yellow, red, blue, etc. The function of these seals remain the same – to seal off the various floats that make up the working parts of the AQUAvalve.

At the end of your growing season clean the AQUAvalve using warm soapy water. Using an old tooth brush will help. The AQUAvalve is easily disassembled. The top float will slide all the way across and the bottom float is unclipped from its pivoting position. At this point it is advisable to remove the silicones to avoid them being lost.

Making sure your AQUAvalve floods and drains correctly is simply achieved and only takes a few seconds. Hold the AQUAvalve at eye level so that you can see the silicon fitted to the top float resting on the hole below it. The yellow silicon must create a tight seal when touching the hole. If it looks like it is not sitting parallel on the hole below simply lift the top float and apply pressure to one side of the silicon, drop the float and hold at eye level again. Repeat the procedure again if necessary.

Blumat 8mm Tank Connector

Blumat 8mm Tank Connector

The Blumat 8mm Tank Connector allows you to install any suitable water reservoir as a water tank for your Blumat Tropf Automatic Watering System. You will drill a 12mm hole into the bottom of the chosen water reservoir and install the connector with the rubber seal on the inside of the tank.

It is highly recommended to install a shut-off valve close to the tank connector so that you could adjust or maintain your system easily when needed.

Please note: The water tank must be at least 0.5 m higher than the Blumat Tropf system for every 5 m of tube but no more than 14 metres higher. ( * DETAILED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS HERE )

Atami Bi-Grow Mix

Atami Bi Grow Mix

Atami Bi-Grow Mix is a high quality substrate. Its composition is well balanced for optimum development of a wide variety of plants. Bi-Growmix is a mix of many types of high quality peat and coco fibres.

An important feature of Atami Bi-Grow Mix is its air/water ratio. The gaps present in Bi-Grow Mix may be filled with water and air. Thanks to the coco fibres, gaps filled with air take in a higher volume, which means more oxygen benefits for the plant. Bi-Grow Mix does not retract and easily absorbs water. Nutrients are gradually released and are thus constantly available for the plant. The presence of coco fibres facilitates root development.

As far as the amount and ratio of the fertilizers is concerned, this substrate can be considered as medium.

Because the Bi-Growmix is pre-fertilized you don’t need to add any nutrients during the first weeks of the cultivation, depending on how many plants and pot size. After this starting period it is advised to add liquid fertilizer to the nutrient water for optimal results.

Bi-Grow Mix contains coco and peat. The coco ensures an open structure so the roots can grow optimally which is especially important for the uptake of nutrients for a stronger and more resilient plant.

• Pre-fertilized: ( NPK 12-14-24, 700 grams per cubic meter ) EC < 1750 µS/cm
• Open structure
• No need to add any nutrients during the first weeks
