5mm In-Line Tap

Inline Taps are useful when wanting to turn off water supply or to flush system.

5mm Inline Tap useful when less than 4 Units to turn off water supply. Also known as a Choke.

Please note: product may vary from picture.

9mm In-Line Taps for use with Autopot Aquavalve 5‘s 9mm piping are now available.

Ball valve
In-line Tap – 12mm/15mm

Inline taps or ball valves are a very useful accessory for the Autopot when having 4 for more Autopot units. They can be added to the end of a layout when you are using pipe  You can open the tap and allow the lines to be flushed, removing a sediment or lime scale build-up that might occur over time. This will only take a couple of minutes and only needs to be done every couple of weeks.

You will also need to purchase Inline Tap Adaptors (12mm or 15mm) for the 12mm/15mm Tap and Inline Tap Adaptors (20mm) for the 20mm Tap.

Chokes / valves / inline taps are used to restrict the volume of water passing through a pipe. They are ideal for things like NFT systems, where the flow-rate might need to be adjusted to fit specifications (1 – 2 liters per minute through a channel). They also solve the problem of plants that require differing amount of water at different times of the year.

It is important to note that these are chokes and may not necessarily shut off completely.

AirDome

AirDome

The AirDome is the perfect accessory to gardeners of all abilities. It has been designed to increase the amount of air around the root zone in plant pots.

Airdome inside pot
Airdome inside pot

If you are lucky enough to have power in your greenhouse or tunnel this little addition can increase yields by up to 130%. It is very simple to use once assembled, which will take less than 30 seconds. The AirDome is placed at the bottom of the pot, covered with compost and then connected to an air pump. Oxygen is then supplied directly to the plants’ root zone, improving crop development and ensuring maximum growth.

It is very easy to use. The AirDome is placed at the bottom of the pot, covered with the substrate of choice and then connected to an air pump.

To maximise the effectiveness of the AirDome use a fluffy mix  such as a mixture of 50% good Coco Peat and 50% Perlite.

Provide the plants with additional oxygen to boost growth significantly and increase yields.

To increase levels  of oxygen for smaller plant at times when the medium seems to stay wet.

With all growing conditions  being correct the Air Dome has been proven to increase yields by up to 130%

The AirDome should only be switched on during the daylight periods. Always ensure that warm air is blown in and around the root zone. Temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees are ideal. Temperature below and above 5 degrees and 30 degrees will potentially damage the roots.

Raise your air pump higher than the AirDome(s) to prevent water from siphoning back when the pump is off or use a non-return valve.

Use a timer to turn the pump on and off when the air temperature is warm and before it gets too cool.

Many AirDomes can be linked together using 5mm connections, or for larger AirDome setups, use 12mm pipe as the supply line, reducing the pipe at each AirDome point with the AutoPot 12mm to5mm Cross Connectors.

Biogrow Bioneem

Biogrow Bioneem 2022

Made from Neem oil, Biogrow Bioneem is a natural botanical insecticide.

It is a natural insect repellent, causes appetite loss in sucking insects, ingestion by pests will cause a disruption of their hormone cycle and negatively affects their breeding ability. Think of it as “anti-Viagra” for pests.

Pests – whitefly, mites, aphids, thrips, leafminer, various beetles and fruitfly.

The key insecticidal ingredient found in Biogrow Bioneem tree is azadirachtin, a naturally occurring substance that belongs to an organic molecule class called tetranortriterpenoids. It is structurally similar to insect hormones called ‘ecdysones’ which control the process of metamorphosis as the insects pass from larva to pupa to adult. Metamorphosis requires the careful synchrony of many hormones and other physiological changes to be successful, and azadirachtin is an ‘ecdysone blocker’. It blocks the insects production and release of these vital hormones. Insects then will not moult, thus breaking their life cycle.

Azadirachtin also serves as a feeding deterrent for some insects. Depending on the stage of life-cycle, insect death may not occur for several days. However, upon ingestion of minute quantities, insects become quiescent and stop feeding. Residual insecticidal activity is evident for up to seven days or longer, depending on insects and application rate.

Composition:

PLEASE NOTE:

5lt and 25lt VOLUME IS TWICE AS STRONG AS THE 250ml and 500ml VOLUMES!

Product may turn opaque and thicken up in colder conditions – this is normal.

250ml & 500ml: 1500ppm azadirachtin

5lt: 3000ppm azadirachtin

Application rate (Varies, depending on the growth stage of plant and insect pressure):

250ml & 500ml: Between 3 ml – 5 ml per 1 L water

5lt and 25lt: Between 1.5 ml – 2.5 ml per 1 L water

Insect Control

Biogrow’s aim is to control insect populations to a level where minimal damage is caused to the crop and the beneficial insects have a supply of food. The closer we get to creating this balance, the healthier our environment will be.

During dormancy (winter) plants can be sprayed with Pyrol for the control of scale insects and the overwintering mealy bug.

During the growing season alternate at 10-14 day intervals between sprays of Bioneem and Pyrol. Under high insect infestation and increased plant damage spray Pyrol at shorter intervals, every 7 days, in order to suppress the population of insects to a minimal level. Then continue with maintenance program.

Make a fresh batch each time you spray.

Application rate varies between 3 ml – 5 ml per 1 L water, depending on the growth stage of plant and insect pressure.

Wurmbosch Worm Castings

Worm Castings

Wurmbosch Worm Castings are a rich, all-natural source of organic matter with lots of nutrients and moisture-holding capabilities.

Vermicast, also called worm castings, worm humus or worm manure, is the end-product of the breakdown of organic matter by an earthworm. These castings have been shown to contain reduced levels of contaminants and a higher saturation of nutrients than do organic materials before vermicomposting.

Earthworm castings are known to have an extraordinary effects on plant life. Worm Castings improve the soil structure and increase fertility making them the most enriching soil conditioner available.

Widely & successfully used for propagation and all stages of transplants and a 10% to soil mixes come highly recommended.

Can also be effectively used to make teas, for foliar application to green up leaves and to help keep insects at bay, mainly during vegetative stages.

The product must be kept closed to maintain moisture levels for bacteria to stay alive until ready for use.

Recommended  Usage:

As fertilizer or top dressing, scatter 1 cm on indoor plants or 2 cm on outdoor plants every 2-3 months.

For planting seedlings, put 1 heaped Tbs (40-50ml) into prepared hole.

Add 1/3 worm castings to soil to make potting soil.

Seedling Mix: 40% Coco Peat, 40% Perlite, 20% Worm Castings

7.0 pH Calibrating Solution

Generic Bottle

7.0 pH Calibrating Solution is to be used with the Digital pH Pen

Suitable for all makes and models of pH pens and meters. pH 7.0 Calibration Solution is easy to use! Just dip your electrode into a small amount of the buffer and adjust the meter to read 7.0. Do not reuse solution.

7.0 pH Calibrating Solution is used to calibrate your pH meter to ensure it maintains it’s accuracy. It is made under strict industry standards in order to give you a solution that is highly accurate and of good quality that will last up to 1 year once opened.

Made from high quality salts and de-ionized water, they are made to be accurate up to +/- 0.01 pH and will be your best friend when it comes to keeping your meters consistently accurate.

Tip: The more you use your pH Pen or Meter, the more often do you need to calibrate.

Important tips which will help you calibrate the pH meter accurately:

    • Follow the Manual

The calibration process will change depending on the meter being used. Always read the manual when you receive the pH meter in order to understand your specific meter and perform calibration correctly.

    • Use the Right pH Buffers

When you perform a pH meter calibration, you must ensure that appropriate buffers are being used. If you want to measure any substance that has a pH of 9 but you calibrate your meter to a pH of 7, you will certainly not get an accurate measurement. The pH measurements are the most accurate only when the calibration points bracket the measurement.

    • Calibrate Often

It is recommended that you calibrate the pH meter every time you need to perform a new set of measurements to get accurate results. It can even help you identify a problem with electrodes. Ideally, you must calibrate your meter when:

– You use it for the first time
– Use it after it has been stored for a long time
– Before performing a new set of measurements

    • Use Best Practices

Some of the suggested best practices are as follows:

– Ensuring that the glass bulb of the pH electrode is well hydrated before you perform the calibration. Calibrating a dry pH electrode will require frequent calibrations.

– Using sufficient amount of pH buffer to fully submerge the pH bulb and the reference junction, which is usually a small ceramic frit on the side of the probe. Always use fresh buffer solution for calibration as old or used buffer solutions may be contaminated.

– Stir the solution during the process of pH meter calibration and measurement, and wait for the electrode reading to stabilize before noting each calibration point.

    • Electrode Care

You must handle the electrodes with extreme care as they are responsible for taking the measurements. Never store them in distilled or deionized water as it damages or dehydrates the sensing glass of the pH electrode and depletes reference electrolyte. Rather, store the electrodes in proper storage solution as it ensures that your electrode provides stable and highly responsive readings due to a well-hydrated bulb.

Jiffy 7 Pellets 41mm

Jiffy 7 Pellets 41mm

Jiffy 7 Pellets 41mm are made from Sphagnum peat from specially selected peat bogs. Lime and a special fertilizer with a low ammonium content are added to the peat in order to stimulate growth. The pellets have a pH of approximately 5.3 and are wrapped in a thin, biodegradable net.

Jiffys are a popular ready to use media and are perfect for seed germination and also for rooting plant cuttings or clones.

The compressed pallets are approx. 41mm W x 42mm H when fully expanded. When exposed to water the Jiffy expands and the hydrated media is held within a degradable net. A small indent is provided on top of the disc to place the seed into once the disc has expanded.

Because the Jiffys have an outer netting to hold the media inside, they can be self-standing or growers can place them inside seedling trays for additional support. ( Handy when rooting cuttings )

Once a good root system has developed throughout the media, they can be directly planted into an NFT system or a larger plastic or fabric pot or even a rockwool slab.

Jiffy 7 Pellets 41mm are also very popular for soil growers and can be directly planted into the soil when the seedling is established.

Jiffy 7s are manufactured from sphagnum peat (and Coir fibers) harvested from carefully selected bogs which are subject to stringent internal and governmental controls to ensure minimal environmental impact. Peat is only taken from sources where the re-generation rate is greater than the harvest rate and the local ecology will not be adversely affected.

AQUAvalve Cover

The AQUAvalve cover if used in conjunction with the AQUAvalve allows the grower to create their own basic but very effective hobby system if used correctly.

All that is needed is a flat tray of any shape or size. The user then simply places the AQUAvalve in the tray & places the AQUAvalve cover over the top of it. A small weight of any kind needs to be placed on the AQUAvalve cover to weigh it down, a small pot of compost or a stone will suffice, ensuring that you do not cover the small breather hole on the top of the AQUAvalve cover. Once in place simply connect the AQUAvalve to a tank, using a length of 6mm pipe and a filter. Although a very basic method, this home made system following the guidelines above can be very effective.

When making your own hobby systems please ensure that the tray is as level as possible and that the pot size is not less than 5 ltrs. If you use small pots you will risk the chance of drowning the plants.

A small plant in a small pot will not appreciate being sat in deep water as the root system will not be able to breath, this obviously does not apply to bog plants or carnivorous plants. If you intend to grow carnivorous plants using this method please ensure you only use rain water.
