The Blumat Tropf Automatic Watering System 3 Meter Set is a ready-to go self-watering kit that allows you to water:

  • 12 x 25 cm diameter pots, OR
  • 6 x 40 cm diameter pots, OR
  • 4 x 50 cm diameter pots, OR
  • 3 x narrow 1 meter flower boxes

( For pots with a depth of 30 cm or more, we recommend adding some Blumat Tropf Maxi “carrots”, as these will ensure deeper watering of the pots )

Use the Blumat planning aid to work out how many watering “carrots” you will need.

The Blumat Tropf system works by using gravity and the capillary interaction between the soil and the orange Blumat clay “carrot” cones. When the soil or substrate is dry, it will create a suction inside the water filled cone tubes – opening the diaphragm at the top of the carrot and allowing water to drip from the tubing. Once the soil around the clay cone becomes moist, this suction will cease and close the diaphragm again.

This allows for each individual pot to be watered automatically only when needed, and a single Tropf system can have up to 500* watering points ! The “carrot” does the thinking for you !

Please note: The water tank must be at least 0.5 m higher than the Blumat Tropf system for every 5 m of tube but no more than 14 metres higher. ( * DETAILED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS HERE )

Whether a person can use a mineral nutrient solution for feeding in conjunction with the Blumat system is debatable – as the small diameter pipping may easily clog up over time with normal salt build-ups and nutrient calcification. A flushing and rinsing agent like FlashClean may have to be used periodically to dissolve any nutrient build-up inside the piping and/or clay cone “carrots”.  An alternative would be to top-feed with your favorite nutrient range as needed and to rely on the Blumat system for regular watering in between feedings.

The Blumat Tropf System Distribution Dripper Set increases the watered area allocated around a single Blumat Tropf “carrot” (orange clay cone with watering diaphragm on top) – extending your watering capacity without the need for extra Tropf sensors (carrots). We recommend adding up to 5 drippers to one Blumat Tropf “carrot”. You could place the drippers up to 1m from the carrot/sensor and each dripper will water an area with a diameter of around 20 cm. Distribution drippers are best installed by using a dripper support.

Whether a person can use a mineral nutrient solution for feeding in conjunction with the Blumat system is debatable – as the small diameter pipping and drippers may easily clog up over time with normal salt build-ups and nutrient calcification. The instrument is only as accurate as the probe is clean. Accurate readings simplify crop management and provide improved growth.

Proper ppm/EC probe maintenance also ensures you maximize the life of the probe and instrument.

The probe surface is where the instrument takes the reading of the solution. If the probe face is dirty or contaminated, the readings may be inaccurate. Much like the windshield of a car, if it’s dirty you can’t see out! If the probe face is dirty, it cannot read the solution.

A tip… if the conductivity reads low, the probe needs cleaning.

Sold in 500ml, 5lt and 20lt volumes.

General Application:

Phytostim can be applied every 14-days throughout the life-cycle of the plant.

Root feeding: a 5% dilution with water (1:20), i.e. 50ml of Phytostim per 1 liter of water.

Foliar application (MOST ECONOMICAL): a 4.5% solution, i.e. 45ml to 1 liter dilution.

Not recommended for hydroponic systems.

Advanced Application:

For more advanced growers, Phytostim have tested and proven full efficacy on the following stages and dosages with a focus on being as cost effective as possible.

With that being said, Phytostim is an all-natural product derived from plants; you as the grower will be able to adjust the below to fit into your growing schedule and growth needs.

Seed Germination:

Application: Soak in a solution of Phytostim for 24-hours before planting to ensure increased germination and vigorous growth.

Dosage: 1:10 dilution of Phytostim to pH balanced water.

Clone Stage:

Application: Soak growing medium with solution of Phytostim before inserting clone. Phytostim can be used as a rooting stimulant or an addition to a rooting hormone. Ensure that the runoff EC is between 0.4 and 1.5 and the pH between 5.5 and 6.5, ideally aiming for 5.8.

Dosage: 1:20 dilution of Phytostim to pH balanced water.

Transplant Stage:

Application: On clone transplant a soil drench is recommended to serve as a nutrient booster, stress reliever and growth stimulant. The soil drench can be accompanied by a foliar application that will serve as an immune booster and general pest protection, especially from powdery mildew and other molds.

Dosage:

  • Foliar application: Cover entire plant with a fine mist with a 3% solution, i.e. 300ml to 10 liter dilution.

  • Soil Drench: Apply 5ml of concentrate to each plant incorporated in the normal feeding regime. Suggested 5ml to 1 liter of pH balanced water.

Vegetative Growth:

Application: Apply every 2 weeks from transplant as a foliar application for the duration of the vegetative growth cycle. Applications can be combined or cycled with a soil drench.

Dosage:

  • Foliar application: Cover entire plant with a fine mist with a 4.5% solution, i.e. 450ml to 10 liter dilution.

  • Soil Drench: Apply 5ml of concentrate to each plant incorporated in the normal feeding regime. Suggested 5ml to 1 liter of pH balanced water.

Flowering Cycle:

Application: Do a foliar application on the first day of the flowering cycle and then again 2 weeks into flower.  You can continue applying as a foliar spray every 2 weeks, or switch to a soil drench thereafter every 2 weeks. Stop applications 2 weeks before end of harvest.

Dosage:

  • Foliar application: Cover entire plant with a fine mist with a 4.5% solution, i.e. 450ml to 10 liter dilution.

Fittings are designed for use on polyethylene pipe manufactured to SABS-533 specifications (class 3 or class 6). When properly used with this specification of pipe, these fittings will not increase the pipe diameter by more than 10% as recommended by the South African Bureau of Standards. Any additional increase in pipe diameter beyond this can cause stress cracking, especially in pipe not made to specification or of inferior quality. These fittings are manufactured with a unique (and registered) barb configuration which is designed to take maximum advantage of the memory of polyethylene pipe, making it possible for the pipe to return to it’s original size between barbs and thus maximising the effectivity of the barbs and improving the strength of the join. 

Please note: 5mm end caps may be either barbed or threaded, depending on availability
