Let the ‘carrot’ do the thinking — hands-free watering that responds to your soil. The Blumat Tropf 3 Meter Set is a ready-to-go, gravity-powered self-watering kit: clay cone ‘carrots’ sense when the soil is dry and drip only when needed, then stop as soon as it’s moist.
- Waters only when needed: capillary suction opens each carrot’s diaphragm when dry and closes it when moist
- No power required: runs on gravity alone, using the height difference between tank and system
- Big capacity: waters 12 x 25cm pots, 6 x 40cm pots, 4 x 50cm pots or 3 narrow 1m flower boxes — and a single system supports up to 500 watering points
- Deep-pot ready: add Blumat Tropf Maxi ‘carrots’ for pots 30cm or deeper
Gravity-fed kit. The water tank must sit at least 0.5m above the system per 5m of tube, but no more than 14m higher. Follow the detailed installation instructions (‘soaking the carrots’). Note: mineral nutrient solutions may clog the fine tubing over time — periodically flush with FlashClean, or top-feed nutrients and use Blumat for watering between feeds.

The Blumat Tropf Automatic Watering System 3 Meter Set is a ready-to go self-watering kit that allows you to water:
- 12 x 25 cm diameter pots, OR
- 6 x 40 cm diameter pots, OR
- 4 x 50 cm diameter pots, OR
- 3 x narrow 1 meter flower boxes
( For pots with a depth of 30 cm or more, we recommend adding some Blumat Tropf Maxi “carrots”, as these will ensure deeper watering of the pots )

The Blumat Tropf system works by using gravity and the capillary interaction between the soil and the orange Blumat clay “carrot” cones. When the soil or substrate is dry, it will create a suction inside the water filled cone tubes – opening the diaphragm at the top of the carrot and allowing water to drip from the tubing. Once the soil around the clay cone becomes moist, this suction will cease and close the diaphragm again.
This allows for each individual pot to be watered automatically only when needed, and a single Tropf system can have up to 500* watering points ! The “carrot” does the thinking for you !

Please read the DETAILED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS carefully, as these will tell you all about “the soaking of the carrots” and how to set up each carrot individually.
Whether a person can use a mineral nutrient solution for feeding in conjunction with the Blumat system is debatable – as the small diameter pipping may easily clog up over time with normal salt build-ups and nutrient calcification. A flushing and rinsing agent like FlashClean may have to be used periodically to dissolve any nutrient build-up inside the piping and/or clay cone “carrots”. An alternative would be to top-feed with your favorite nutrient range as needed and to rely on the Blumat system for regular watering in between feedings.
