Jiffy 7 Pellets 41mm

Jiffy 7 Pellets 41mm

Jiffy 7 Pellets 41mm are made from Sphagnum peat from specially selected peat bogs. Lime and a special fertilizer with a low ammonium content are added to the peat in order to stimulate growth. The pellets have a pH of approximately 5.3 and are wrapped in a thin, biodegradable net.

Jiffys are a popular ready to use media and are perfect for seed germination and also for rooting plant cuttings or clones.

The compressed pallets are approx. 41mm W x 42mm H when fully expanded. When exposed to water the Jiffy expands and the hydrated media is held within a degradable net. A small indent is provided on top of the disc to place the seed into once the disc has expanded.

Because the Jiffys have an outer netting to hold the media inside, they can be self-standing or growers can place them inside seedling trays for additional support. ( Handy when rooting cuttings )

Once a good root system has developed throughout the media, they can be directly planted into an NFT system or a larger plastic or fabric pot or even a rockwool slab.

Jiffy 7 Pellets 41mm are also very popular for soil growers and can be directly planted into the soil when the seedling is established.

Jiffy 7s are manufactured from sphagnum peat (and Coir fibers) harvested from carefully selected bogs which are subject to stringent internal and governmental controls to ensure minimal environmental impact. Peat is only taken from sources where the re-generation rate is greater than the harvest rate and the local ecology will not be adversely affected.

Leca

Leca

LECA (Light Expanded Clay Aggregate).

This free-draining medium is manufactured by mixing sodium with clay and firing in a rotary kiln to burn off the sodium, forming round pellets of various sizes, each pellet having ‘honeycomb’ spaces inside. These spaces allow nutrients to be taken up by the pellet and released to the plant gradually. They also allow oxygen to reach the roots of the plants. This is of paramount importance in hydroponics.

We stock various different sizes of Leca. 8 – 16 mm expanded clay balls work well for larger net pots and Dutch buckets, while the smaller 2 – 10 mm expanded clay balls work best for smaller sized net pots, eg. 50 mm, 75 mm and even 200 ml net pots. 8 -10 mm Leca is also available and can be used as desired, most probably for medium to larger sized net pots and also for grow beds, Dutch buckets, etc.

The lightweight roundish clay balls of various sizes make for a great hydroponic growing substrate. It’s the perfect media choice for ebb and flow and drain to waste. Water flows between the pebbles quickly, supplying the roots with nutrients, yet allowing the roots to stay oxygenated. Roots and plants develop healthy and vibrant.

With the advantage of light weight, high permeability, high durability and excellent sound and thermal insulating properties, LECA is a good ‘all round’ aggregate for use in an a variety of applications.

NB: Product needs to be flushed/rinsed before use. Shape and colour may vary according to availability.

Leca

Leca is a Lightweight Expanded Clay, formed by the heating and firing of clay in a rotary kiln, at temperatures of up to 1150°C. The process transforms the clay into various lightweight ceramic granules, which have a hard ceramic shell and a porous core.

Intact Granules

  • Higher insulation (more closed pores)
  • Better drainage (bigger gaps between granules)

Fragmented Granules

  • Better moisture retention (more open pores)
  • Better soil aeration (promotes healthy bacteria)
  • Increases root biomass (sharp edges split and induce exponential root development)

Benefits of Leca

Manufactured to relevant ISO standards, Leca is consistent in nature:

  • pH neutral
  • stable & durable
  • anti-fungal
  • resistant to insects

Green Stretchy Tape

Green Stretchy Tape

Green Stretchy Tape that accommodates plant growth by stretching up to twice its own length. Tough, durable and resistant to sunlight and moisture. Ideal for trellising, training and tying.

Length: 50 m ( 1 cm wide )

Advantages:

It’s long. The tape comes on a roll – one of its biggest advantages. You can spool out a length as long as you need to reach those long, renegade plant branches and rein them into the cage or stake. You can even encircle an entire plant or weave the tape in and out of branches before tying it off. Other purchased garden ties are pre-cut. They’re often not long enough to stretch out and accommodate branches.

It’s moisture-resistant. The vinyl allows moisture to roll off the tape, discouraging mildew, a feature especially appreciated by gardeners who work relentlessly to prevent diseases.

It’s strong. Vinyl content makes the tape strong enough to last a full season even when exposed to full sun for weeks and weeks. Yet stretches without strangling or breaking branches.

Compact Ducting Reducer

Compact Ducting Reducer

Compact Ducting Reducer – versatile and easy to fit to flexible ducting. Both ends of the reducer are male and are designed to fit inside flexible ducting.  These ventilation reducers are pressed metal. Lightweight and simple to fit. Longer taper for less air flow resistance. Shorter length is ideal for smaller spaces and less intrusive installations.

It’s sometimes necessary to use a reducer, for example you may have a large powerful fan but only wish to make a small hole in the wall of your building for air to travel in and out.  A reducer will help you do this. Can also be used to connect mismatched diameters or to split airflow from one fan to two tents or grow areas.

Sizes:

150mm – 100mm

200mm – 150mm

250mm – 200mm

Blumat Digital Soil Moisture Meter

Blumat Digital Soil Moisture Meter

The Blumat Digital Soil Moisture Meter is a professional moisture meter allowing you to accurately check the moisture content of your soil or substrate. The meter uses Blumat’s porous clay cone sensor technology to measure the soil moisture. As the soil needs to “bond” to the clay “carrot” cone in order for the meter to give accurate readings ( in millibar ), the clay cone needs to be in the soil for 2 to 3 hours before the first readings are taken. This makes the meter most valuable as a permanent meter for plants that will require constant monitoring.  Detailed operating instructions HERE.

The meter comes in very handy to apply the precise amounts of water needed to sensitive plants and prevents root damage caused by over-watering or by too much rainfall during the rainy season.

Be careful not to damage the clay cone “carrot” sensor when inserting the probe into harder soils – making a hole roughly the size of the probe beforehand in harder soils will help to prevent sensor damage.

Operation:

NEVER immerse the electronic measuring in water or get it wet. If used outside during the rainy season – remove the electronic measuring head from the sensor when not in use ( the sensor, or carrot, can be left in the soil during rainfall ) OR protect the head by covering it with the plastic protection cap ( included with the meter ).

N.B: Always monitor the water level in the plastic tube of the “carrot” sensor before using the meter. If need be, fill the tube up to the brim again.

Operation
  1.  Unscrew measuring head
  2.  Soak plastic tube with ceramic tip in water for at least 15 minutes.
  3.  Fill plastic tube with tap water up to the brim.
  4.  Screw measuring head back on as far as it will go.
  5.  Then insert into the soil, about 15 to 18 cm deep in the outer part of the root, for potted plants 5 to 8 cm from the edge of the pot.

For newly repotted plants, insert the cone directly into the soft soil always rotating to the right and then press the soil down slightly.

In case of dense root growth or very hard soil, pierce a suitable hole in the outer part of the root. Fill the hole halfway up with loose earth and water. Then insert the Blumat Digital rotating to the right, fill the hole with soil and press down.
