Lumii Black 600w Electronic Ballast

Lumii Black 600w Electronic Ballast

The Lumii Black 600w Electronic Ballast is of high quality and very affordable.  It’s discreet and packs a massive punch. Firing out a steady light output of 600w and dimmable to 250w for when the temps are too much to handle, it even has a boost function when you want to give your plants that little bit extra lighting power. This is a great ballast, that’s solid and at a great price, you wont be disappointed.

  • Part of the Lumii Black Range
  • power: 600 W / 400 W / 250 W adjustable (+ 10% overcurrent 660 W)
  • high quality components and RF protection
  • silent
  • cool
  • soft low-power ignition prolongs lamp life
  • plugged power cord, and IEC female connector for connecting the reflector
  • 12 Month Warranty

The ballast features dim and boost functions, giving you the ability to control the light output from your lamp to your plants. There are two dimmable options (250w & 400w) and a ‘super-lumens’ boost option (600w+Boost) which is on average a 10% increase in output.

We recommend using a 600w lamp for 600w dimmer settings, a 400w lamp for 400w dimmer settings and a 250w lamp for 250w dimmer settings.

Never boost a lower wattage lamp to a higher lamp setting.

It can take up to 10 mintutes to ignite a lamp depending on the type and age of the lamp you are using.

Set the dimmer know to 100% power for your chosen lamp first. Once the unit has warmed up (after 10 – 15 mins) you can adjust power.

It is highly recommended to use a Surge Protector (which you can get at any Hardware store) or a Contact Relay.

Venture Metal Halide

Venture Metal Halide

Venture Metal Halide (MH) lamps are designed for plants during their growing cycle, i.e. for non-fruiting or non-blooming plants: they are great for reproducing the spring to summer light spectrum. Metal Halide lighting is therefore the best HID choice for the plant’s vegetation growing phase.

Also in our shop….

Powerplant

The output of Metal Halide lamps is closer to natural sunlight than most other light sources.

Venture Metal Halide Lamps are a high output horticultural grow lamps specifically designed for the Vegetative/Growth phase of a plants cycle.

Each Venture MH Lamp is fitted with an E40 screw fitting for connection to most brands of HID reflectors and cables. These lamps can only be struck with a HID lighting ballast of the same wattage.

Metal Halide Lamps are for use during the Growth phase of plants (light cycle 18/6).

Venture Metal Halide Grow lamps can be used with analogue or digital ballast.

Each Metal Halide Lamp from Venture produces a light that is 4000 Kelvin – Blue Spectrum.

Venture 250w MH Lamp – Lumen Output: 22,000

Venture 400w MH Lamp – Lumen Output: 36,000

Venture 600w MH Lamp – Lumen Output: 50,000

Venture1000w MH Lamp – Lumen Output: 90,000

Remember: When handling grow lamps to ensure you don’t leave fingerprints on the glass as this will impair the performance of the lamp. It is best to use a cloth when handling grow lamps.

Ballast is required to fire lamp

METAL HALIDE – (MH)

Metal halide bulbs are very efficient and produce between 65 and 115 lumens of light output per watt of electricity used. MH bulbs produce a light that is very close to full summer sun, with a spectrum rich in the blue end. This promotes fast vegetative growth and compact, stocky plants with short internodal leaf spacing.

Metal Halide bulbs create light by passing electricity through an clear inner arc tube that is enclosed in the vacuum of an outer clear glass tube. This inner arc tube contains mercury and other metals in iodide form. When electricity is applied to these metal iodides they give off very intense light and heat. The outer casing can be either clear or phosphorus coated. Most gardeners prefer the clear bulb as it produces the brightest white light available.

MH bulbs come in sizes from 70 to 1500 watts with the 250 w, 400 w , 600 w and the 1000 w being the most popular sizes for gardening. All the bulbs need to run with a ballast (basically a transformer to step up the voltage to the proper amount), that are designed to run a specific size bulb.

Medal Halide bulbs (except the 1000 w Super Bulb) should be replaced about every 9500-10000 hours or aprox.18 months (assuming an 18 hour / day on cycle).

HID Lamps Coverage Area Height Above Plants
250W 75 x 75cm 40cm
400W 90 x 90cm 45cm
600W 105 x 105cm 50 – 60cm
1000W 1.2 x 1.2 60 – 90cm

Contact Relay

Contact Relay

A Contact Relay will protect the your ballast and HID lamps from any power surges and the timers from burning out from overload from the control gear.

We recommend that you use with a Contact Relay for safety and protection of the lights against lighting and power surge.

This style of Contact Relay does not have a built in timer so you will need to purchase one of these separately.

Also know as a contactor relay or relay contactor.

Timers can be used to automate your hydroponic system or your grow light or both. This means you do not have to switch your system on and off everyday yourself . . . very useful! If you wish to automate any HPS or Metal Halide grow light over 250w you will need to use a contact relay (contactor relay) to handle the inductive load of the ballast. This load (the amount of power a ballast draws to start up and power the light) can cause timers to fail, leaving your plants in darkness.

Specifications:
16A Resistive/Inductive
240v AC
Plugs 16
Janus Socket 16A
This will safely run 4 x 400w or 3x 600w HID lamps.

Precautions:
Do not get wet!
Do not tamper with unit!
Do not exceed the recommended loads!

Important:
1. The contact relay can switch up to 16 amps of HID lights
2. Locate a multi plug socket a safe distance way from the ground and ensure that both sockets are switched off.
3. Plug timer into left hand socket of multi plug socket.
4. Insert plug marked “timer” on contact relay into timer.
5. Insert plug marked “mains” on contact relay into the right hand socket on the Multi plug socket.
6. Plug the HID (250w/400w) lights into Janus socket end of Contact relay.
7. Make sure that all plugs and sockets are kept well away from all liquids.
8. Turn on switches to or on Multi plug sockets.

Surge Protector

Surge Protector

A Surge Protector will protect your valuable electrical equipment from surges in electrical supply. When a sudden increase in voltage occurs, such as from a lightning strike or damage to a power line, the surge protector detects the excess current and safely diverts it through the house’s grounding path.

These “point of use” or “plug-in” Surge Protectors will only work if plugged into grounded electrical outlets in locations where electrical wiring has proper grounding installed. Have your location inspected by a certified electrician if you are not certain about your wiring – this small expense is well worth the cost when compared to the possibility of destroyed electronics and other equipment or damages caused by an electrical fire.

These surge protectors are not only able to protect your growing equipment but also other household items, such as persnal computers, fridges and freezers, televisions, Hi-Fi’s, gaming consoles, etc. It is also worth mentioning that these units will not protect against “brown-outs”, where the electrical supply drops to levels lower than normal. If protection against current drops is also a requirement, then a UPS unit will be a better option.

These units are rated at 16 Amp, 250 V

Read more about how surge protection works HERE.

Also see our Contact Relays – these are used when multiple lighting ballasts are powered on with a single timer. The relay will route the current through a 30 Amp relay when the ballasts come on, so that the time does not burn out.

Hydrodepot 600W CMH Lamps

Hydrodepot 600W CMH Lamps

Hydrodepot 600W CMH Lamps are here! All the benefits of CMH lighting (also called LEC lighting) ready to screw into your existing 600W Ballast and E40 reflector !

Ceramic metal halide lamps work by heating up a ceramic tube within the bulb. Ceramic can withstand much higher temperatures than other media typically used in lights. This higher temperature results in the bulb creating a plasma-like light source similar to the sun.

Since the light emitted from a CMH is akin to natural sunlight, its spectrum is closer to that of natural sunlight, so that plants exposed to CMH light are getting a wider range of wavelengths of usable light than other types of grow lights can produce.

PLEASE NOTE: On first illumination, Hydrodepot 600W CMH Lamps need to be run continuously for a minimum of 15 minutes. This will allow the metals within the lamp to fuse correctly. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN LAMP FAILURE!

3K Kelvin or 4K Kelvin ? – Although both lamp types should be able to light a complete growing cycle with great results due to their amazing spectral outputs, traditionally growers have leaned towards higher Kelvin ratings for vegetative stages and lower Kelvin ratings for flowering stages. A 3K lamp will have a slightly yellower tint to the light it provides compared to a 4K lamp.

Why use CMH?

Best CRI color rendering index – CMH lights provide the highest measures of color rendering index (CRI) as compared to other grow lights. (Objects that are fully visible in natural, unobstructed light appear to the human eye with a CRI of 100.) Artificial lighting does not reproduce the same light as the sun, but CMH bulbs come very close, with CRI ratings ranging between a low of 80 to a high of 96.

Provides UV Lighting – CMH bulbs, as a function of offering a fuller spectrum of light, provide significantly more ultraviolet light than many other types of grow lights. Plants thrive during their vegetative stages with this type of light and it aids in the development of stronger branches. The UV-B provided by these lamps could trigger more oil and resin production in plants – a natural defense against UV light (Just like humans would put on sunscreen when out in the sun) which could provide a more terpene and trichome rich harvest! (Please use eye and even skin protection when spending longer periods under these lights)

Color Stability – Unlike various other types of grow lights, CMH bulbs provide a consistent quality and duration of light throughout their useful life. Many types of grow lights lose effectiveness over time that may not be evident to the human eye; CMH bulbs retain their wide spectrum.

More Efficient – This is subject depending on what is being compared and for the duration that the bulb is in use, but CMH bulbs are up to 20 per cent more efficient than other types of metal halide bulbs. The yield per watt of CMH bulbs is higher.

Longer Lasting – This is another subjective benefit, but CMH bulbs do last longer than halogen and incandescent lights. They have been confirmed to run as long as 24,000 hours (almost 3 years).

Produce Less Heat – Though they operate at higher temperatures, CMH bulbs emit less heat than other types of bulbs. This is important in smaller grow rooms, where a grow light may contribute to temperatures that are too high for efficient growth and yields.

No Electromagnetic Interference – The ceramic in CMH bulbs does not interfere with electronics such as cell phones or television signals the way that some other types of grow lights or electronic ballasts can. This is not only a convenience, but helps to avoid detection if the intent of a grow room is to keep a low profile.
