Upgraded Activated Carbon Filter: High-Efficiency Odour Control for Grow Rooms
This upgraded carbon filter is built for serious growers who need reliable, long-lasting odour control. Packed with high-iodine imported carbon 1050+, it delivers stronger adsorptionand a longer service life than standard filters, keeping your grow discreet (or clean, depending on where you install the filter 😅).
Why 1050+ Carbon Matters
The iodine number measures how much odour-causing material a carbon filter can absorb. A higher rating = more micropores = more surface area to trap smells.
1050+ iodine is premium grade, meaning this filter removes odours more effectively and lasts longer than typical 900–1000 iodine carbons.
In practice, that means fewer filter changes, consistent performance, and peace of mind for the entire grow cycle.
Reusable carbon filter features a patented design that eliminates the need to replace entire filters.
Includes 1+ refill to match the filtration capacity of two standard 4 inch (100mm) carbon filters while costing less.
Removable twist-off flanges support easy, tool-free refilling using the included funnel and scoop.
Larger chamber is lab-tested to block odors as effectively as standard filters with no compression required.
Dual-layered steel mesh with protective coating withstands high humidity in grow tents through many grow cycles.
A wholly original replenishable carbon filter designed to permanently replace standard duct filters. This iF Award-winning patented structure can be regularly refilled to offer a cost-effective and sustainable solution for unwanted odors in your grow tent. The charcoal fan filter kit also includes 1+ refill, making it as efficient as two standard inline carbon filters while proving more affordable. You can purchase additional refills at a fraction of the price of an entirely new carbon scrubber to further increase the value of this kit. Features an expanded chamber that enables you to achieve factory carbon compression and the same lab-tested levels of odor-blocking effectiveness as standard carbon filters. This also eliminates the need for you to actively compress your replacement charcoal and facilitates the refilling process.
Eco-Friendly Design
This first-of-its-kind filtration system removes the need to routinely purchase replacement filters and dispose of the old units. Each carbon filter features premium-grade Australian virgin charcoal and comes with 1+ refill. Its activated charcoal utilizes an enhanced surface area with a higher adsorption rate to help extend the time between refills. Further lengthen the charcoal bedding’s lifespan by reversing the filter’s easy-to-remove flanges. You can compost the used supply when replacing the charcoal to maximize its utility even further.
Highly Durable Build
The activated charcoal is safely locked within your odor filter by aluminum flanges and a secure rubber seal. The filter itself employs two layers of galvanized steel meshing with a sandblasted finish to protect the charcoal bedding. These multiple layers work together to effectively block odors in even the most humid environments by ensuring increased resistance to rust and corrosion.
Applications
The AC Infinity 4 Inch Refillable Carbon Filter Kit filter pairs with 4” inline duct fans and ducting to improve air quality in hydroponic grow rooms and grow tents. The kit includes a convenient funnel and scoop set and one charcoal refill for continuous odor scrubbing. Additional refills are available for purchase.

More on air filtering with carbon scrubbers/filters…
Matching an extraction fan with a carbon air filter for a grow room is essential for maintaining optimal air quality and controlling odors effectively. To achieve the best results, the airflow capacity of the extraction fan, measured in cubic meters per hour (m³/h), should be compatible with the carbon filter’s rated m³/h. This ensures that the fan can effectively pull air through the filter without overwhelming it. Additionally, considering the size of the grow room is crucial; the fan and filter combination should be capable of exchanging the air in the room every 1-3 minutes. For instance, a grow room with a volume of 6 cubic meters would require an extraction system with a capacity of 120-360 m³/h. Properly matching these components not only maximizes odor control but also maintains a healthy environment by efficiently removing excess heat and humidity, crucial for the successful cultivation of plants like cannabis.
When adding a carbon filter (like the Budget Carbon Filters) to an extraction fan system, it’s important to account for the inevitable capacity loss that occurs due to the added resistance. A carbon filter can reduce the fan’s effective airflow by up to 25-30%, depending on the filter’s quality and the density of the carbon. This reduction means that if your fan is rated for 300 m³/h, the actual airflow might drop to around 210-225 m³/h once the filter is installed. To compensate for this loss, it’s advisable to choose a fan with a higher capacity than initially required or ensure that the combined system’s capacity still meets the necessary air exchange rates for your grow room. Properly accounting for this capacity loss ensures efficient air purification and maintains the desired environmental conditions for optimal plant growth.
ProActiv Carbon Filters use only 100% food grade virgin coconut activated carbon, encased in multi-layer fleece mats that are sealed air-tight on both ends of the scrubber.
Installation is super easy – just clip each end of the filter onto a rope ratchet and attach your ducting!
Get rid of unwanted odours by attaching a carbon filter before your exhaust fan/s.
In a closed-system grow area, cycle your air through a carbon filter to help keep it free from dust, mold spores and bacteria. (Be sure to DEHUMIDIFY – carbon filters stop working in 85% + R.H. environments !)
Clean and scrub your incoming air supply and stop pests like spider mites and others from getting into your grow area by installing a carbon filter before your inlet fan/s.
How match your Garden HighPro ProActiv Carbon Filters up with the correct sized inline fans:
1) First, determine how much air-flow your will need through your grow space. If you are using fans to exhaust heat caused by hot HPS grow-lamps, a quick calculation can be done…
Number of lamps × Watts of each lamp ÷ 2 = Required cubic meters per hour of air flow needed.
(We recommend adding × 1.2 to this answer for our HOT ZA summers!)
2) Find one or more fans (whichever will best suit your area) that will provide a total airflow =/> than what has been worked out in step 1.
3) Match up each of your chosen fans with a carbon filter of the same diameter (preferably, to avoid the additional cost of ducting reducers). Also check the filter length if installing in cramped spaces.
VERY IMPORTANT: ALSO make sure that the filter’s air-flow capacity matches or exceeds the fan’s airflow rating, using the ProActive Filter table below. If too much air passes through the filter, it will not be able to scrub the passing air thoroughly!
4) Once your fans and filters have been matched up, it’s time to work out how many meters of ducting your will need, as well as other accessories, like Rope Ratchets, Ducting Clamps, or rolls of Aluminium Tape.

The CAN-Lite 300 PL Carbon Filter weighs in at only 1.8 kg, making it very easy to hang from rope ratchets. With a length of 45 cm, this little filter can be used in smaller grow spaces. Filled to the brim with 1.2 kg of activated carbon using vibration plates during manufacture, your air will be filtered to perfection. The removable pre-filter can be hand-rinsed when necessary and the filter is also refillable.
The filter is able to purify up to 300 m3/hr. ( It can be matched up with a fan with a maximum capacity of 330 m3/hr, as there is generally an air-flow loss of around 20% when a filter is added into the extraction setup. )
PLEASE NOTE: The CAN-Lite 300 PL Carbon Filter can be fitted with either a 100mm OR a 125mm Flange ( SOLD SEPARATELY! ) … don’t forget to add a flange to your cart with your purchase !
Carbon Filters will not work in spaces with a Relative Humidity of 85% or higher.
The Can-Lite PL Range Carbon Filter Flange twists onto the lightweight Can-Lite PL Plastic Carbon Filter range (Filters sold separately). The Can-Lite PL range allows for the flange to twist off for easy maintenance or replacement of the Can-Lite PL Carbon Filters.
PLEASE NOTE:
There is a slight incompatibly when using these flanges with local ducting supplies – the exact flange measurements are as follows:
“100 mm” Flange: Inner diameter = 100 mm, outer diameter = 106 mm – Although a tight fit, our local 100 mm ducting fits over the flange reasonably easily.
“125 mm” Flange: Inner diameter = 125 mm, outer diameter = 130 mm – This outer diameter is just a bit too large to fit 125 mm ducting over ( We recommend using Aluminium Tape or Duct Tape to connect the ducting to this flange size, instead of trying to get the ducting to fit over the flange and then using a clamp to secure the ducting )

FAQs: Q: How should I choose a carbon filter to match the fan that I shall use? A: When setting up your ventilation system, of course the first consideration is the diameter. It is simpler to set up if ducting, fan and filter all have the same nominal diameter, although the diameter of fan and filter can vary. If this is the case, it is recommended to use a filter of a slightly larger diameter than the fan, rather than the other way around. Bear in mind that adding ducting and a filter will increase the operating pressure of the system, and consequently the actual flow rate of your fan will be reduced from its free flow rate. As a rule of thumb, choose a filter with a flow rate 20% larger than the fan’s free flow rate. Also, remember that all filters work more effectively if the actual air flow is lower than the rated air flow. A filter with a higher rated air flow than the true air flow of the system will work more effectively, for longer.

More on ventilation…
Ventilation fans like the HydroDepot Dual Speed Inline Fan 150mm fans are essential components in grow tents and grow rooms, providing a controlled environment that is crucial for the health and productivity of plants. These fans facilitate the exchange of stale, humid air with fresh air, which helps maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels. Proper ventilation prevents mold and mildew growth, reduces the risk of pest infestations, and ensures that plants receive an adequate supply of carbon dioxide, which is vital for photosynthesis. By maintaining a stable environment, ventilation fans help create the ideal conditions for robust plant growth and high yields.
Moreover, ventilation fans play a significant role in managing odors and improving overall air quality within grow tents and grow rooms. Many plants, especially those with strong fragrances, can produce odors that may be overwhelming in enclosed spaces. Ventilation systems equipped with carbon filters can effectively neutralize these odors, ensuring a pleasant working environment. Additionally, good air circulation helps prevent hot spots and ensures that all parts of the plants receive uniform exposure to light and nutrients. This even distribution promotes consistent growth patterns and helps maximize the efficiency of lighting and nutrient use, contributing to healthier, more productive plants.
