🧰 Setting Up Your System

  • Reservoir filled with clean water (ideally pH 6.0–6.5)
  • Nutrient mix added according to label — check EC with your meter
  • Pump & air stone running smoothly — oxygen = happy roots
  • Seedlings secured in media (rockwool, clay pebbles, coco, etc.)
  • Lighting set for 14–18 hours per day (use a timer)
  • Record your pH, EC, and temperature daily if possible

⚡ Tip: In South African summers, keep your reservoir shaded or insulated — warm water suffocates roots faster than a power outage kills your Wi-Fi.

⏱️ Daily & Weekly Maintenance

  • Check pH and EC readings
  • Top up with water (nutrients every 7 days)
  • Clean filters and remove debris
  • Inspect for pests — whiteflies and aphids love hydro greens
  • Replace full nutrient solution every 1–2 weeks

🩺 Troubleshooting & Common Issues

  • Yellow leaves? Usually nitrogen deficiency or high pH. Flush & reset nutrients.
  • Roots turning brown? Low oxygen or hot water — add aeration and cool the reservoir.
  • Plants wilting? Pump off, blocked drippers, or too much heat (could also be a sign of root rot!)
  • Algae in tank? Light leak — cover with an opaque lid or foil insulation.
  • No growth? Check EC — you might be underfeeding or lights too far away, or too weak.
