Why a green work-light ?

Florigen is thought to be the flowering hormone responsible for triggering flowering production in plants.

For most photosensitive plants, florigen is only produced once the plant has experienced 12 hours of continuous darkness. In other words, it is the amount of darkness, not light, that triggers a plant’s flowering response.

Using a green light to work in your indoor garden during the plant’s “night time” has very little, if not no effect, on what the plants see to be total darkness, which means that Florigen production will not be hampered.

T8 Fixture Connector Advice

Low cost, slim-line and ultra light, these can easily be installed in cloning racks or propagation tents. They can also be hung vertically to be used as supplemental lighting for dark tent corners and in between plantings.

Each Double T8 LED Fitting is 1215mm long and fits 2 x T8 LED tubes. PLEASE NOTE: These fittings are not the same as older fluorescent fittings (which have ballasts and starters) and should not be used for fluorescent tubes!

Each Clear T8 LED Tube is 1200mm long, has a 18 Watt power draw, 6500K colour temperature, and Lumen output of 1600 Lumens. PLEASE NOTE: These tubes are not the same as older fluorescent tubes and should not be used in fluorescent fittings!

The LED tubes produce hardly any heat and can be hung as close to the cuttings or seedlings as possible to maximize the light intensity.

T8 LED Tubes and Fittings 120cm Assembly:

  • Always wire up and use correctly.
  • Never put strain on the connected electrical wire. Do not hang from electrical wire.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The holes of the hanging eyelets ( that are folded up, out of the casing, if needed, one on each side ) are too small to clip into standard rope ratchet clips. Use something like a round key-holder ring to go into the hanging eyelets and then clip the key ring into the rope ratchet clips if needed.
  • Take care when handling these units as they are light-duty items and can easily damage if dropped by accident.

LIGHT COMPATIBILITY

Most RJ11 and RJ12 connector grow lights using the resistor dimming standards can work with the Type-B lighting adapter. However, each light manufacturer’s dimming protocol is different so some may have a limited dimming range with our controllers. Lights that have spectrum control or utilize a PWM or voltage protocol are not compatible. See our other lighting adapters or the UIS control plug if your light is not compatible. A firmware update via the AC Infinity app may be required for your UIS controller to work with this dongle. Compatible lights include, but are not limited to:

More on Colour Temperature and Wattage:

Colour temperature plays a pivotal role in cannabis cultivation, influencing various stages of the plant’s growth. During the vegetative phase, cooler light temperatures around 6500 Kelvin closely mimic the natural spectrum of sunlight in spring, encouraging robust leafy growth. As cannabis transitions into flowering, a shift towards warmer temperatures at around 2700 Kelvin simulates the light spectrum of late summer, signaling the plant to produce buds. This precise manipulation of Colour temperature ensures that the plant receives the right signals at the right time, maximizing yield and potency.

Additionally, light intensity is a critical factor in cannabis cultivation, and it’s directly related to wattage. Higher wattage bulbs deliver greater intensity, which can be beneficial for larger, more mature plants with extensive canopy coverage. However, it’s crucial to strike a balance, as excessive intensity can lead to heat stress and hinder growth. Reflectors and distance adjustments can help fine-tune the light distribution. By carefully considering wattage in relation to light intensity, cultivators can optimize energy usage and create an environment that fosters healthy, high-quality cannabis plants, ultimately leading to a successful harvest.

Spiral LED Lamps 36W

Spiral LED Lamps 36W – Energy saving replacements for traditional Fluorescent CFLs, available with E40 or E27 screw-in fittings. These lamps have a 6000K color temperature and are popular for seedlings and cuttings, an excellent way to establish young plants. They are good for shelf gardening because their low heat allows you to place lights on shelves that are stacked on top of each other. Smaller plants and seedlings can thrive in a well-designed indoor garden lit with LED grow lights.

6000k is great for germinating, seedlings, cuttings and the vegetative life stage.

When plants are young, high output lighting can be too intense, causing them stress and negatively affecting growth. Instead, cuttings and seedlings can be placed under smaller LED lights until they are ready to move on into the veg or even the bloom rooms.

During propagation or cloning, lights should be kept on for 18 hours a day, although many growers find that quicker growth is achieved by keeping them on constantly, without a night period at all.

Because of these lamps’ low running temperature they are ideal for growing in small spaces and their low power usage keeps costs low for the small scale grower. They are an excellent option during the vegetative stage because they can be placed much closer to the plant’s foliage, which tends to encourage the plant to remain short and stocky – favorable characteristics to look for when growing indoors.

E27 is a standard household fitting, e.g. a desk/study screw-in lamp.

E40 is larger than your standard house fitting.

E40 lamps fit reflectors that are normally used for HPS lighting. T8 Fixture Connector Advice

Low cost, slim-line and ultra light, these can easily be installed over propagators or inside a propagation tent. They can also be hung vertically to be used as supplemental lighting for dark tent corners and in between plantings.

Each Double T8 LED Fitting is 615mm long and fits 2 x T8 LED tubes. PLEASE NOTE: These fittings are not the same as older fluorescent fittings (which have ballasts and starters) and should not be used for fluorescent tubes!

Each Clear T8 LED Tube is 600mm long, has a 9 Watt power draw, 6500K colour temperature, and Lumen output of 810 Lumens. PLEASE NOTE: These tubes are not the same as older fluorescent tubes and should not be used in fluorescent fittings!

For best results 4 to 6 T8 tubes are recommended above a single large sized propagator, like the Garland XL High Dome Propagator.

The LED tubes produce hardly any heat and can be hung as close to the cuttings or seedlings as possible to maximize the light intensity.

  • Always wire up and use correctly.
  • Never put strain on the connected electrical wire. Do not hang from electrical wire.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The holes of the hanging eyelets ( that are folded up, out of the casing, if needed, one on each side ) are too small to clip into standard rope ratchet clips. Use something like a round key-holder ring to go into the hanging eyelets and then clip the key ring into the rope ratchet clips if needed.
  • Take care when handling these units as they are light-duty items and can easily damage if dropped by accident.

As distributor of Mars Hydro Grow Lights in South Africa, Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop will honour Mars Hydro’s 5 year extensive warranty locally, as set out below:

Disclaimer: 

If any light is found to have been tampered with or it is found that damage was caused by the customer, repairs will not fall under warranty and there will be repair fees (and possibly also shipping fees to pay). If any light’s warranty seal is broken without Mars Hydro’s consent, the warranty becomes void. If damage was caused by abnormal use, neglect (such as dripping water), wrong input voltage, dropping or breaking the light, disassembling light, etc., the warranty is void. Warranty coverage is ultimately left to the discretion of Mars Hydro. Mars Hydro reserves the rights to refuse warranty repair or replacement service to anyone.

Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop will only handle warranty claims on lights that were bought from Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop.

The start of the warranty period is on the date that the lights were paid for by the purchaser. The warranty period is not extended even if repairs or replacements were provided after the initial date of purchase.

It falls upon the buyer to inspect purchased lights upon receipt (whether bought in store or online) for any damages present upon receipt and to notify Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop about these damages as soon as possible, preferably with an email that includes photos of the damage/s addressed to: info@hydroponic.co.za.

The 5 year warranty replaces the previous 2 and 3 year warranty for all new design Mars lights purchased from, and including, April 2021.

The warranty covers the power supply, all fans and electronic components, including, but not limited to, light emitting diodes and light emitting diode drivers. The warranty does not cover damages or reduced functionality caused by the wear and tear of usage.

Warranty Claims within 6 months of purchase:

  • Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop will provide the purchaser with the option to repair / replace / refund any light that has been found to be covered by the warranty.
  • Lights that were bought or collected in store are to be returned to our Claremont or Brackenfell (Western Cape) stores by the purchaser for inspection. Any repairs or replacements provided after inspection are to be collected at our Claremont or Brackenfell (Western Cape) stores by the purchaser.
  • Lights that were bought online and then shipped using a courier service will be collected from the purchaser via courier service free of charge and inspected on receipt. Any repairs or replacements provided after inspection will be sent via courier to the purchaser free of charge.

Warranty Claims after 6 months of purchase:

  • Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop will choose the option to repair / replace / refund any light that has been found to be covered by the warranty.
  • Lights that were bought or collected in store are to be returned to our Claremont or Brackenfell (Western Cape) stores by the purchaser for inspection. Any repairs or replacements provided after inspection are to be collected at our Claremont or Brackenfell stores by the purchaser.
  • Lights that were bought online and then shipped using a courier service will need to be shipped only to our Brackenfell (Western Cape) store at the expense of the purchaser and will then be inspected on receipt. Any repairs or replacements provided after inspection will need to be collected from our Brackenfell (Western Cape) store at the expense of the purchaser.

Additional Services Offered by Mars Hydro:

  • Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop is aware that Mars Hydro provides the additional service of providing temporary grow lights to purchasers during warranty claims. This additional service does not, however, form part of the actual warranty, and is therefore not provided by Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop.

“Lending out” of grow lights during warranty claims by Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop  :

  • Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop may, at our own discretion, lend out old LED grow lights of any type and model that we may have available, ONLY to the purchaser of a Mars Hydro grow light that was bought or collected in store, during the period of their warranty claim. This service does not form any part of the Mars Hydro Warranty and is provided as a supplementary service.
  • Hydroponic.co.za / Hortishop does not offer this additional service for lights that were bought online and then shipped using a courier service
  • Should such an offer be made to the purchaser, the light will have to be collected at and returned to our Claremont or Brackenfell (Western Cape) stores by the purchaser.
  • The lent out light will have to be returned in the same condition that it was received before any repairs or replacements for any warranty claims will be provided.
  • Should any part of the lent out light be missing upon return, or the lent out light be found not to be in the same condition that it was received in, fees for damages will apply, before any repairs or replacements for any warranty claims will be provided.
