The flexible backbone of any automated watering setup. Irrigation Piping is a general-purpose, flexible water supply pipe for hydroponic and automated watering systems — available in a full range of sizes, sold per metre.
- Size for the job: 3mm for arrow drippers, 5mm to T off a trunk line, 12/15/20mm mains sized to your pump
- Low-pressure friendly: 3mm with arrow drippers works on low-pressure pumps or even gravity-fed drip
- Good drainage: 15mm or larger recommended for drainage/return lines
- Durable materials: 12/15/20mm in LDPE; 3mm and 5mm in PVC
Diameters 3mm, 5mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm, all sold per metre. SA pipe sizes are measured on inside diameter. 5mm may be green instead of black depending on stock.
Description
Irrigation Piping is a general purpose, flexible water supply pipe, often used in hydroponic and automated watering systems. Piping (12mm, 15mm, 20mm) is made from Low-density polyethylene (LDPE), 3mm and 5mm is made from PVC and we stock the following sizes:
3mm, 5mm, 12mm, 15mm and 20mm diameters, all sold per meter.
3mm piping mostly used with Arrow Drippers, when building a drip system for multiple pots. Unlike Button Drippers, Arrow drippers don’t need high water pressure to function, and can therefor be used with low pressure water pumps, or even in a gravity fed drip system.
5mm piping is often used to T off from a larger trunk line and has multiple uses. PLEASE NOTE: 5mm may be green instead of black depending on stock availability.
Water pumps have different sized pipe fittings, getting larger as the pump size increases and your size of water pump will determine what size Irrigation Piping you will use in your system ( 12mm, 15mm or 20mm diameter) When designing a system, the first thing to consider is what size water pump you will need to use. Choose a water pump based on the head height / lift (the maximum height the pump will have to lift the water) when designing a NFT hydroponic system. For other applications, the flow rate of the pump can also be considered.
15mm or larger diameter piping is recommended for drainage / return piping.
Please note that in South Africa pipe sizes are worked out on inside diameter.
