A living, natural predator that hunts spider mites for you. Phytoseiulus Persimilis is a well-known biological control agent against spider mites, supplied by BioBee South Africa as part of an IPM approach that reduces pesticide use — introduce it at the first sign of spider mite damage.

Sold in 5g sachets. Store at ~4–10°C; viable up to 2 weeks after the printed production date. Shipped overnight separately in cooled polystyrene (extra charges apply outside Cape Town; may take up to 3 days). The adult female is an orange-red, pear-shaped mite with fast movement when disturbed. Due to the living nature of the product, its condition on arrival cannot be guaranteed.

Phytoseiulus-Persimilis-Sachet 2023Phytoseiulus Persimilis, of South American origin, is a well-known biological control agent against Spider Mites, supplied by BioBee South Africa, who are actively providing IPM solutions which reduce the use of pesticides for both conventional and bio-organic agriculture in the country.

Sold by Hydroponic.co.za in 5g sachets, which are hooked onto plant stems close to leaves. The mites will emerge from the holes in the top of the sachets over a number of days, eager to find food and help with the elimination of the following pests:

  • Tetranychus Urticae Koch (Two-spotted Spidermite)
  • Tetranychus Cinnabarinus (Boisduval) (Carmine Spidermite)
  • Tetranychus Turkestani Ugarov & Nicolski (Strawberry Spidermite)
  • Tetranychus Ludeni (Bean Mite)

Phytoseiulus Persimilis controls spider mite infestations in many crops, in temperate as well as subtropical and tropical regions. They should be introduced upon first sign of spider mite damage. The release rate depends upon the nature of the crop, the ecosystem (e.g. open field or greenhouse) and the level of spider mite infestation. Temperatures of 21-27°C and high humidity (above 60%) will enhance predator activity and ensure its success.

These predatory mites should be shipped and stored at temperatures ranging from around 4 – 10 °C and the sachets should be viable for up to 2 weeks after the production date printed on each sachet.

Mite Description:

The adult female is an orange-red pear-shaped mite rather longer than its prey. It has longer front legs and a characteristic rapid movement when disturbed or exposed to bright light. The nymphs are oval and pale-pink in colour.
