Freedom Farms Coco-Perlite Growing Medium
R185.00 – R200.00
A clean, flexible base substrate you can grow with your way. Freedom Farms Coco-Perlite Growing Medium is a blend of coco coir and perlite with zero added amendments — a basic blend that supports hydroponic cultivation, ‘build a soil’ recipes and seed germination alike.
- Three ways to grow: use it for hydroponics, as a ‘build a soil’ base, or for seed germination
- You control the feed: no plant nutrients included, so you supply a full-spectrum nutrient solution to match your method
- Clean start: coco is sieved, buffered and washed to an EC below 1 mS/cm, and it’s pathogen- and weed-free
- Choose your aeration: the perlite ratio sets the airiness — 50-50, 70-30 or 90-10
30L bags in coco-perlite ratios of 50-50, 70-30 or 90-10. Hydroponic use needs a continuous full-spectrum feed (EC 1.5–2.5 mS/cm); seed germination needs a nutrient solution (EC 1.2 mS/cm) after emergence. Made in South Africa.
Description
Freedom Farms Coco-Perlite Growing Medium is a blend of coco coir and perlite with zero added amendments. This basic blend allows for a variety of cultivation methods.
Coco Pearl has multiple applications due to its basic formulation. Applications include hydroponic cultivation, ‘build a soil’ and seed germination. Hydroponic cultivation requires a continuous supply of a full-spectrum inorganic nutrient solution (EC between 1.5 and 2.5 mS/cm) to the plant roots. This is essential for plant growth if no additional amendments are added. The ‘build a soil’ application requires the addition of various amendments mixed into the Coco Pearl substrate according to the soil recipe used. Ensure thorough mixing of the Coco Pearl and amendments before allowing the new blend to mature and settle for 1-2 weeks before planting. If used for seed germination, make sure to add a full spectrum nutrient solution (EC 1.2 mS/cm) after seedling emergence to provide essential nutrients for growth. Coco Pearl coir has been sieved, buffered and washed to an EC below 1 mS/cm (EC).
Available at Hydroponic.co.za in coco-perlite ratios of 50-50, 70-30 or 90-10, in 30lt bags.

More about coco-coir and Perlite…
Coco Peat consists of processed coconut fibers and is a byproduct of the coconut industry which, without its usefulness to gardeners, would otherwise be disposed of. As a growing medium similar to sphagnum peat, coco peat, also called coir or coir dust, provides an alternative to potting soil featuring high water retention, suitable aeration and antifungal benefits.
Perlite may be the most commonly used growing medium in the world. This excellent product is used by hydroponic as well as organic gardeners. It has excellent “wicking” action yet doesn’t absorb water giving the plants roots plenty of oxygen. Commonly used in a mixture with vermiculite or Coco Peat.
Perlite, made from processed granules of volcanic rock, has excellent capillary properties and doesn’t compact, which allows for good aeration.
Used in pot culture or with drippers, it is one of the best hydroponic growing mediums around.
