Fine Calcitic Lime
Fine Calcitic Lime is made up of 80 – 90 % calcium carbonate, and also contains small amounts of trace elements, such as magnesium, potassium, silicon and sulphur. Being alkaline, it is used as a soil neutraliser, working against the acidification of soils and growing mediums which takes place with the addition of fertilisers to these substrates. Calcitic lime also adds calcium to growing substrates, which plays a very important role in plant growth and nutrition, as well as in cell wall deposition. Calcium also encourages the growth of micro-organisms that contribute to plant health and enhances water penetration of soils and growing mediums.
Calcitic lime also works more quickly than fine dolomite lime: Calcium carbonate is better at balancing pHs than magnesium carbonate, and calcitic lime contains much higher levels of calcium carbonate than dolomite lime.
80 – 90 % calcium carbonate, plus trace elements
150 – 200g per m2, depending on soil pH
Lime should not be added if kraal manure is used.
LIME DUST MAY CAUSE IRRITATION TO SKIN, EYES AND RESPIRATORY TRACT – NUISANCE DUST.
